We built a premium timber pergola as the focal point of this comprehensive Radlett garden renovation, creating an inviting space that blends structure with natural planting. The pergola was constructed from planed and chamfered pressure-treated timbers, assembled with stainless steel coach bolts for strength and longevity, and finished with a UV-resistant wood stain. A built-in seating area with a slatted back runs along two sides, providing comfortable outdoor seating without the need for separate garden furniture. The lawn was completely renewed — the old turf was lifted, the soil rotavated and levelled, and fresh high-quality turf was laid and rolled to create a pristine, even surface. Along the garden borders, we installed decorative planting with a carefully curated selection of evergreen shrubs for year-round structure, interspersed with flowering perennials that provide seasonal colour and interest. All beds were finished with a bark mulch layer to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Gravel pathways were laid on a weed membrane and compacted sub-base, offering a low-maintenance, permeable surface that connects the pergola to the rear of the house. Solar-powered post lights were fitted to each pergola upright, providing a soft warm glow for evening use without any mains wiring required. The completed garden offers a balanced mix of relaxation space, greenery, and practical pathways — a versatile outdoor area the whole family enjoys.
